Fitness Blogger Responds To Commenters Saying “Moms Shouldn’t Share Bikini Pics”

Sia Cooper is famous for her blog and social media presence which is all about being both a mom and a weightlifter and fitness expert. Her page is called Diary of a Fit Mommy, and she posts a lot about her workouts, her gains, and how to maintain both whilst raising kids.

As you might imagine, she’s got an extremely fit body and she likes showing it off.

Her page attracts a weird mix, since not every weightlifter is a mom and not every mom is a weightlifter—though based on her following, many seem to aspire to be. That means the comments aren’t always what you’d expect.

Cooper shared a picture of herself overlaid with one comment from a former follower that rubbed her the wrong way. In the picture, Cooper is wearing a bikini and looking over her shoulder. The comment says that she shouldn’t be posting these pics because “to show your gains you don’t have to show your behind,” and Cooper should consider what her kids will see online someday.

Wait until the commenter finds out they were at the beach, too!

Cooper responded in a long post, saying this response was classic “mom-shaming,” and she doesn’t understand the point of it:

Since when were moms supposed to hide their bodies? Since when were mothers no longer allowed to feel sexy? How do you think babies even got here in the first place?

As to what Cooper’s kids think about seeing her butt, Cooper claims they’re all for it:

I want my kids to see a mother who’s body positive. I want my kids to see a mother who’s confident in her own skin. Plus, they love my butt and use it as a bongo when I’m cooking dinner or awkwardly standing in line at the grocery store. Anyone else, no?

She adds that just because you “pushed a baby out of your vagina at some point in your life” doesn’t mean there’s a rule against wearing a bikini. And anyone who does that deserves to feel good about their body:

Sometimes, all a mother needs is to truly FEEL herself. Let’s face it: motherhood can make us feel less than sexy. It leaves us drained, depressed, exhausted, and staring into a mirror, looking at a former shell of ourselves that we barely recognize anymore. And don’t get me started on our postpartum bodies.. it can be harder to celebrate our bodies when they’re covered with stretches marks and loose skin.

So mamas, put on your bikinis. You’ve earned it. Every woman deserves to feel comfortable in her own skin without society’s judgy opinions.

Let the mom-judging stop. Motherhood is already tough as it is. We are damned if we do, damned if we don’t so stay true to yourself.

Hell yeah. Keep posting those gains and showing that butt. There will be that much less to explain to your kids on their wedding night.

The other day, I had posted a photo of myself in this very same bikini and was told to cover up… because I am a…
