Only people who have worked in retail know the peculiar pain customers are able to inflict on any given day. There’s truly a spectrum to choose from: customers who run in 5 minutes before close, with nary a thought for the employees trying to make it home in time for dinner. Customers who stand at the cash register for 15 minutes, deciding whether or not they need that pair of purple slacks (nobody needs a pair of purple slacks!). Customers who take out their anger on people getting paid minimum wage.
Then there’s the side of retail that has nothing to do with customers. Like, how is it that NOBODY will ever switch shifts with you, despite you doing so for them? Why is time so relative when it comes to breaks vs. shifts? And most importantly: Why aren’t we allowed to fight people when they’re mean to us?
