“Bob and Sally” memes feature two stick figures holding hands in a show of non-ideological solidarity…so needless to say the meme has been ruthlessly torn apart online.
Originally the meme was created in the spirit of “Oh gosh, can’t we all just get along regardless of our politics?” …Which sounds like a nice sentiment until you realize one group (Bob!) wants to strip things like healthcare and reproductive rights away from their fellow citizens and is probably at least a little bit racist.
Then it gets a little harder to set those very real life-and-death differences aside and pretend like everything is fine. As many pointed out, when people are able to ignore the gaping political chasm that exists between them and their friends it’s often because those politics don’t affect them directly.
As such, the original dopey meme was quickly mocked across social media and repurposed for critical and comedic ends. Maybe don’t be like Bob and Sally. Maybe think for yourself?
