Not everyone knows this, but babies usually come out of the womb with ten little razor-sharp nails growing off their itty-bitty fingers.
That’s why you’ll sometimes see a baby wearing mittens. It’s to protect themselves and others, because infants are notorious for having terrible hand-eye coordination. Their little faces get cut up and it’s not that easy to trim those nails either. Ah, the wonders of new life.
Since babies are already a danger to themselves and others, people had a really strong reaction to a series of photos that went viral on social media that featured an infant with several different manicure styles.
The Daily Mail reports that the baby manicure was originally advertised on Facebook.
“I can do your babies nails. PM for info. Cheap rates,” the manicurist captioned it. I’m assuming it’s the mom? Because I can’t imagine anyone else allowing someone to do this to their baby?
To me, it looks like these images were Photoshopped because each one is exactly the same except for the different styles of nails. They’re still pretty hilarious and a lot of folks agree with me.
People started sharing the images on Twitter, also joking that they either do baby nails or know someone who does:
But every joke on the Internet is taken super seriously by someone. There were so many comments about how wildly dangerous this would be because a flailing baby with little claws is a disaster waiting to happen:
People didn’t even seem to realize they were being messed with when someone said they do the nails “in the womb,” too:
I guess there is some legitimate reason to worry for future babies, if not this photoshopped one. People just might do anything they see on the Internet.
