I’m fortunate enough to have pretty chill parents but not everyone is as lucky as me. By the standards of my friends (and the people in this thread) all of the things my parents did to try and be “strict” were pretty milquetoast.
I had my driver’s license before I had a cell phone. I could go wherever I wanted as long as I couldn’t communicate with them. That was my version of coming home before the street lights came on.
In a new subreddit called, appropriately, “Insane Parents,” kids are calling out their moms and dads for less than, umm, “acceptable behavior.”
Some are kinda funny, some are kinda sad, but yea, I think all qualify as “insane” to a degree:
2. “I synced my calendar with my mum and forgot I have my birth control implant replacement date marked 3 years from now. She saw it and texted me this while I was at work. I’m 20.”
4. “My mother dearest, whom my sister and I JUST let back into our lives, talking to my sister about her daughter (my niece). Behold the kind of person she is…”
14. “(In university) Parents track my location and know I didn’t go to class (because I had already turned in the project we were working on and didn’t need to work in-studio)”
22. “I’m the bad guy now, apparently, for asking my father to make sure his whooping cough vaccine is up to date before he snuggles up to my son who is due soon.”
24. “I’m the only kid in the family who didn’t become a doctor. My mom forced my dad to post for my graduation since he always brags about my doctor and dentist siblings. This is what I got.”
30. “My mom texts me and all my siblings every Sunday to tell us to go to church. The youngest one of us is 19 years old and we all live hours away from her now. I had to do it to her.”
