Restaurants have become very controversial places in the last few months. While lockdown has been lifted in most states and cities, the prospect of returning to a restaurant to eat is still pretty risky. Some have outdoor service only, some have take out only, a few are saying “f*ck it” and going full service.
Unsurprisingly, COVID-19 cases have been spiking in places that opened too soon because they didn’t want to keep paying unemployment so folks could safely stay home.
It’s understandable why people want to go back to restaurants, even if I personally don’t think it’s worth the risk to myself as a diner or to the employees. There is a strong desire to return to normal even when it’s not really possible. Restaurants are often a part of the community, too, a familiar place you can go to be around others.
In Austin, a restaurant called El Arroyo has been a huge attraction for their delicious tacos and also for their hilarious billboard, which they change regularly even during a pandemic.
