Now You Can Buy A Long-Ass CVS Receipt Scarf, If You’re Into That Kinda Thing

I remember the first time I received a long CVS receipt. Just as soon as I was sure it would stop spewing from the machine, it kept… on… going. I was flabbergasted. I had purchased a bottle of shampoo and an unnecessary lipstick—and the receipt was longer than my leg. It stressed me out. I didn’t even want to look at it, so I crumbled up the lengthy receipt and shoved it deep in my purse.

Over time, the phenomenon of the seemingly endless CVS receipt has become a joke that we can all relate to.

And now, some Etsy shop owners are cashing in on the fun by creating scarves that look like long CVS receipts.

Seller ReceiptScarves is selling a $19 CVS receipt scarf at just under 60 inches in length. “This unique design is sure to turn heads. It’s the perfect style and length to be worn by both women and men, teens and adults. It also makes a fun gift,” writes the designer.

Another seller StuffUHaveTheyWant is selling a fleece CVS receipt scarf that’s 60 inches and length and allows for customization—this is your chance to get creative! The scarf will set you back $20 plus shipping and handling.

So, why are CVS receipts so hilariously long? In a 2018 piece for Vox, Rachel Sugar went on a journey to find the answers.

“We are always listening to customer feedback,” a CVS spokesperson told Sugar, adding that the company has “taken a number of steps over the past several years to redesign elements of our receipts and the ExtraBucks Rewards that print on them to make sure we’re making them shorter where we can but also making it super easy for customers to understand how many rewards they’ve earned or what savings they can take advantage of.”

And while the CVS receipt might be a cultural touchstone that makes us laugh, some folks are pissed at all the waste. Jimmy Kimmel has famously complained about long CVS receipts. And nonprofit organization Green America launched a “Skip the Slip, CVS” campaign.

So, during these cold winter days, you can either embrace the long CVS receipt and wear it as a scarf—or just buy a CVS receipt scarf that looks like the real thing.
