Teen Exposes Homophobic Uncle At the Dinner Table For Being On Grindr

A teen posting on r/AmItheA–hole has apparently caused a complete meltdown in his extended family—at least, he feels like he did and wants the Internet to weigh in. Using the name u/homophobicuncle, he writes that he is 18, gay, and has been out since he was 12.

He doesn’t say how his parents feel about this, but he does say that they seem fine with his super homophobic uncle verbally abusing him. That’s not what supportive parents do, so I’m already worried for the OP.

His folks have told him he needs to deal with his uncle “he’s simply old and stuck in his ways,” and they invited him to their Thanksgiving dinner.

Homophobic and careless about COVID? What a world. The OP clearly couldn’t expect much from his parents, but he had a backup plan in case things went south:

About a month ago I was browsing on Grindr, when I came across my uncle’s profile. For those who don’t know, Grindr is a gay hookup app. I opened it and screenshotted his profile with all his pictures, and immediately blocked him. I had no idea what I was going to do with this back then, so I just kept the screenshots.

At dinner, things started okay, but then took a turn:

He started going on a homophobic rant, although not about me specifically. I asked him to please stop, but he continued to argue and told me that what I’m going against the Bible and that I’m going to hell.

At once point he told me to shut up, and I was at my wit’s end with him. In a fit of momentary rage, I pulled out my phone with the screenshots and asked him to explain what this is. His face suddenly turned pale, and his wife started crying. They left immediately after.

The OP says his uncle is now getting divorced and that his parents are mad at him, saying that the OP’s “nieces and nephews will now grow up without a stable family” because of his actions:

I snapped back at them, reminding them that it was him who backed me into a corner, and I had no other choice. They also demanded that I stop using Grindr, so I lied to them and said that I’m not using it anymore. AITA?

The OP’s post was eventually deleted because you’re not technically supposed to use this subreddit for revenge stories. As always, there are a lot of people who think this is fake, because what are the odds that a horrible homophobe would so perfectly get his comeuppance?

But the people who took it seriously told the OP that he didn’t do anything to ruin his uncle’s marriage—his uncle did that all by himself.

Even if this story isn’t true, there are plenty of families that do allow this sort of behavior towards their own kids just for being gay. I want to believe that at least one of those awful homophobic adults is getting exposed for the hypocrite they are this holiday season.
