Friendships, when done properly, are based on affection, a shared sensibility, and mutual respect. But that’s not to say that we see eye to eye on everything with our friends.
In fact many friendships have secrets, old wounds, or subject matters that neither friend is eager to address. Sometimes to keep things friendly we avoid certain topics—stuff like religion, politics, body odor, etc.
Maybe you love your friend but hate their romantic partner, or you love their sense of humor but dislike other aspects of their personality. It’s a tough situation and very common. So when a poster on Ask Reddit recently posed the question: “What have you never told your best friend because you’re afraid it may end the friendship?” there was an outpouring of friendly angst.
