People In This Group Are Sharing The Most “Not So Fun Facts” They Know

I love to learn. In fact, I don’t even really care what the subject is.

Unfortunately, that leads to reading a lot of history I’d rather not know. Honestly, it was nicer to be ignorant of who was and wasn’t a Nazi sympathizer.

Then again, doing a 23andMe test and finding out you were related to Benjamin Franklin is a fun fact. A useless fact, but a fact!

Someone on Reddit wanted to know what others knew that they’re not necessarily proud to know. The results, as you guessed, are sad but interesting.

Here are some random facts that aren’t very fun to know but are real nonetheless:

1. 40% of murders in the United States go unsolved.

shutterstock

“Actually, 40% of murders are not solved, they are “cleared”. Cleared does not equal solved.

WAY more than 40% of murders go unsolved.

For example. If you make one arrest in a murder case they report it cleared. Even if that ends up being the wrong person. Doesn’t matter. Clearing a murder is not getting a conviction.

There are other reasons a murder may be cleared. Like if the prime suspect died for example..

But yeah in reality A LOT more go unsolved.” –VulfSki

2. The Sun kills way more people in Australia than any of the huge animals.

shutterstock

“People joke about Australia having dangerous animals of all kinds. However, no. 1 enemy to Australians is the sun.

Australia has the highest skin cancer rate in the world. An average Australian is four times likely to get skin cancer than any other type of cancer, and two thirds of Australians will probably get it by the age of seventy.” –BizarroCullen

shutterstock

“They also skin seals and sea lions! The way they do it is by tail flicking them to the fucking moon (not really that far, but they do launch them like 150 feet up in the air sometimes, iirc). When they do this, the landing force will tear the skin off the animal.

And why do they do this? Apparently, for fun.” –Clemen11

5. You’re more likely to survive being shot in the head than rabies.

shutterstock

“You’re more likely to survive almost anything than rabies.

Internal decapitation? Yup. Shark Bite? Yup. Being hit by a speeding car, scalped, or breaking your neck? Yes.

Rabies is a death sentence, always. Except for those 14 people in all of recorded medical history.” –justalittlelupy

6. Wasps make spiders seem friendly.

shutterstock

“There’s a wasp in Australia that hunts spiders.

It doesn’t eat them, though. It paralyses them, makes a little mud cocoon for each one, and before sealing it off, lays a single egg on the now trapped spider.

The egg hatches, the larva eats the still alive (and still paralysed) spider, and then breaks out of the cocoon as a wasp.” –pinkpanzer101

Most is the key word here. There are still parts of a thermonuclear bomb buried somewhere near Goldsboro, NC.” –LaPetitFleuret
