We will never run out of bad date stories on the Internet because there seems to be a never ending number of bad dates out in the real world for people to go on. Unless you marry the very first person you ever go on a date with, you’re likely to have a few of your own. This one shared by Taylor Lorenz is unique in that it doesn’t seem like the date itself was the problem, it was menu literacy that ruined everything.
Lorenz wrote that she thought she was ordering singular dumplings on her bad date, but it turned out she ordered almost fifty:

I’m curious how expensive she thought a single dumpling would be. The prices seem like they’d be a tip-off, and if not, where can I go to order these cheap miracle dumplings?
The tweet was screenshot and posted on Instagram by activist Rachel Cargle, who asked people to share their “worst date stories” in the comments. She shared hers to kick things off:
Mine: when I first moved to NYC (about 5 years ago) I met up with a guy who I had met on an app. When we arrived he said hello, hugged me kindly and then told me to hold a second while he ran to the bathroom before we grabbed our dinner. I said okay, grabbed a seat in the busy outdoor area we were in. After waiting an uncomfortable amount of time I go to call his phone and he blocked me — completely ditched me. I got live ghosted and never heard from him again
