There has been a pretty inconsistent response to COVID-19 from state to state and even from the federal government Instead of paying for people to stay home so the virus can be traced and controlled, businesses have been forced to reopen so states can stop paying people unemployment. Many businesses that require face-to-face interaction have become seriously restricted in how they conduct themselves. It makes sense that some people would be confused about what the rules are. But there is absolutely no excuse for what this woman did just to get a manicure.
A nail technician named Taylor in Washington shared a text she received on her Instagram from a client after their appointment together. The client wrote to her, “I feel really bad and should not have shown up for my appointment but I desperately needed my nails done! I tested positive for the virus two days ago soooooo please quarantine yourself.”
Are. You. F*cking. Kidding. Me????
At this point, I would be dragging this sociopath and cursing her name, but Taylor responded with very reasonable (yet polite) disappointment.
“I asked you before you even got here if you’d been exposed to the virus and if you had it at any point,” she wrote. “You have known I am immune compromised and legally wasn’t supposed to take your appointment if you did.”
To that, the client answered, “I was just desperate to get out of the house! I was quarantine in two days Im’ sorry! I needed my nails done soooooo bad!”
The disgusting levels of selfishness and self-justification in this message are truly shocking. There’s no way anyone could be confused about what it means to be COVID-positive at this point. Even if you feel fine, you’re highly contagious. Going to a nail salon where you are sitting close to another person endangers them and everyone else in the room. And if she’s only been in quarantine two days, she was supposed to have at least 12 more days ahead of her. No one needs to see her nails.
Taylor spoke with Allure about the reaction to her post and says she’s heard from others in the beauty industry who have had similar interactions with clients.
“It was very distressing to receive those messages,” Taylor said. “It is alarming to think there are people who don’t take other people’s safety seriously.”
Thank you for all the recent wonderful support! It means so much to me!
I will be taking a day or 2 off from social…Posted by Rogue Menai Salon on Monday, August 3, 2020
She says she has been tested, but still has to quarantine for 14 days. That means she can’t work. So this woman not only endangered her health, she essentially stole two weeks of income from her nail technician. She did write on Instagram that the experience hasn’t been entirely bad:
Let’s protect ourselves and each other. If there is anything I have learned in the last 24 hours, there may be a handful of unthoughtful people like this ex client who did this to me yesterday, but this world is a beautiful place with a whole lot of people in it willing to do what’s right. Keep on being good to others, and let’s kick this virus outta here.
The woman in the texts has been reported to the proper authorities, whatever that means. But I seriously hope she gets fined so hard she can’t afford a manicure for a very, very long time.
