A TikTok went viral alleging a common theft trend at the clothing store “Marshalls.” In the clip, a shoebox that had been placed back on the rack contained someone’s worn out Nike Airforces. It can be presumed that the older shoes had been swapped out with a brand new pair.

The video appears to be taken by therealprettygabriela who is at Marshalls with her friend. They’re laughing as they pan to the paid of beaten up shoes in a brand new shoe box. Through her laughter she says, “Now who- why somebody switch they shoes out at Marshalls?” She continues, “That’s crazy..”
Shoplifting has been and is a rising issue throughout the world. Between today’s challenging economics and increased media consumption, people are getting a little bit braver about stealing from big companies. Most of the amount that is lost throughout the year to theft is covered by insurance, so major companies like Marshalls, Walmart, Target, etc… generally aren’t too affected by the loss.
