Two Dunkin’ Donuts employees exposed the company for excessive food waste in a viral TikTok about how they are asked to throw away over $100 worth of donuts every single night. Furthermore, the employees are forbidden to eat them, and will be fired if caught doing so.
In the video, which has over 1 million likes, user @korrbs shows two Dunkin’ employees throwing away what they say is about $100 worth of donuts. With the context of the video, it is unclear if @korrbs is one of the employees shown in the video.
According to Feeding America, food waste in our homes makes up about 39% of all food waste – about 42 billion pounds of food waste. While commercial food waste makes up about 61% of all food waste or 66 billion pounds of food waste.
That’s a lot of perfectly good food being wasted when a lot of people are in need. This TikTok was one of many that have recently come to light highlighting the corruption and greed of major corporations.
“When we’re required to throw out $100 worth of donuts but get fired if we eat them,” a text overlay on the video reads.
