Some of the most viral TikToks are the ones that contain a mistake, because sometimes it’s much more fun to watch someone mess up, even more fun than watching someone hot dance. 20-year-old Teera Somsak and her sister Tarie have gone viral for messing up in an extremely unique way—by accidentally including their grandmother’s ashes in the making of their TikTok. They realized mid-shoot that they’d be using her urn to prop up their phone.
The video shows Teera and Tarie in their moment of realization, when they first understand what they’ve done:
You can see Teera frozen between wanting to laugh and increasing horror:
Then we get a glimpse of the urn itself:
They then move it to another shelf, giving it a little pat as an apology:
The TikTok is captioned, “She told me that I was using my grandma as a TikTok stand. I literally thought it was a teacup BSKZBSKS.”

“We had just moved to a new house so everything was out of place,” Somsak told Buzzfeed News in an interview. “And I am usually never in my mom’s room so I don’t know the ins and outs.” She said also that at first they used a lamp as a stand, but the angle wasn’t right.
“I saw this tiny teacup looking thing so I quickly grabbed it because there was nothing that seemed sturdy enough to be able to prop up my phone,” she said.
It was just as her sister realized where they’d been propping the phone that the video began, yelling, “OMG, that is our grandma.”
“I was so shocked and slightly laughing on the inside because in my head I was like, OMG, why did I not know it was her?'” Teera said.
The response has been huge on TikTok, with over 17 million views and a whole lot of comments that are almost as inappropriate as using your dead grandma in a TikTok:
But Teera finds the whole thing funny and suspects her grandmother would, too.
“I love dark humor so I found all the slightly offensive jokes to be super hilarious,” she said.
She added, “She was an insane cook and was so, so funny…If she were around still, she would definitely be laughing so hard at the video.”
Teera claims that before the TikTok debacle, she’d never seen the urn, and to be fair, it’s much smaller than the classic model. That’s because the ashes were split up between her mother and aunts. Luckily, her mom thought it was funny, too, because it would be hard to keep this under wraps.
“It had been my birthday a few days before so I literally kept thinking it was a birthday gift from my grandma to go viral,” said Teera. “Or somehow she was communicating with me through all of this.”
If a grandma understood what TikTok was, I’m sure she’d want this for her granddaughter.
