Splitting the check can be stressful. We don’t really have a set societal norm or etiquette in these situations. Are we each paying for our own things? Are we splitting evenly? What if I only got fries and didn’t drink? Stressful.
Well, you know who has no shame in their game? TikToker user Haley (@hales.grace). She created a whole-ass spreadsheet with her calculations in Microsoft Excel.
Haley explains that she had a birthday dinner and covered the whole $327.83 check at the end, rather than splitting it seven ways. After the meal, she broke down the cost per person at $21.31.
Now, basically Haley tallied everything up, collected and ended up $10 short. Thus the spreadsheet.

Venmo, Splitwise, PayPal, you can use so many apps to just get your money then and there. I think that’s the way to go. If you let folks walk away and pay later you aren’t going to see that money again.
The comments went both ways on this, but everyone seems to agree that check splitting is a nightmare.
What do you do in these situations? I’m a pay up front guy now but in my broke days I’m ashamed to admit I’d try to get out of paying all the time. I guess it depends on your situation, but either way making an entire spreadsheet seems like overkill. Especially over $10.
