UberEats Customer Can’t Find A Driver Despite Leaving $4 Tip On $17 Order

A $17 UberEats order tipped with $4 led to a viral TikTok by a customer who couldn’t find a driver. The now-vial video has ignited a debate amongst viewers about tipping expectations for delivery apps.

TikToker Syd (@stillpoorandhungry) shared the video mentioning the well-known “table of shame,” referring to UberEats orders with inadequate or absent tips that go undelivered.

“I ordered my food a really long time ago, and it still doesn’t have a driver, so I’m worried that it will end up on that shelf of bad tippers,” she says in the video.

She explains in the video that her order came to a total of $17 including “fees and taxes.” She then “rounded up” the tip to $4.

“I’m gathering on this app that that’s a bad tip. The app was even suggesting that I tip $8 to $10,” she says. “I was a server for like ten years. On what planet is a 50% plus tip like a standard tip? Why would I tip almost the equal cost of the entire meal?”

The video sparked debate among viewers in the comments section over the necessity of the app’s 50% tip recommendation.

Delivery drivers also shared their thoughts on the minimum tip required for them to accept an order.

Some viewers pointed out that drivers may avoid distant orders with low or standard tips due to the increase in gas prices, and mileage regardless of the initial cost of the order.

However, some users reported they stopped using delivery apps due to the growing tip expectations and now opt to retrieve their food directly from the restaurant.
