People On Twitter Are Feuding Over The Right Way To Draw An ‘X’

How old were you when you realized there were eight—EIGHT—different ways to draw an ‘X’?

I was today years old when I learned this news. Maybe you, too, could use some enlightenment. The question of the ‘right’ way to draw an ‘X’ was raised on Twitter after @SMASEY presented an image of eight (eight!) separate and distinct possibilities and asked, “Which way do you draw an X?”

The options—each of which shows a different color for the first stroke and arrows indicating direction—have torn Twitter apart in a way we haven’t seen since the great Yanny/Laurel debate of 2018

As is usually the case with viral stuff that doesn’t actually matter but that we pretend matters anyway in order to give ourselves some semblance of control, identity, and distraction in this exponentially disastrous world, the arrow question has kindled fierce arguments between folks who believe their way of drawing X’s is THE ONLY CORRECT WAY and EVERYONE ELSE CAN GO TO HELL.

Some were adamant that ‘5’ was the only way.

Some said ‘6.’

Others called ‘6’ crazy!

Many, myself included, could not imagine a world where people didn’t strictly belong to teams 7 and/or 8.
