Women who play games get a lot of harassment from the bros they’re connected to because anonymity really lets them fly their misogynist flags freely.
One who goes by the name Negaoryx on Twitch has been dealing with it for so long, she basically had a dissertation on why their “jokes” are total bullsh-t.
She shared a clip from her Twitch stream on Twitter in which she’s playing Dead by Daylight when a viewer wrote in the chat:
“Hi, what color is your thong today?”

Negaoryz says on Twitter that “99% of the time, I ignore trolls and ban them” but this is that one percent of the time when she says what’s really on her mind.
“Respect women, you just… absolute infant of a human,” she starts. “So what did you expect? Did you expect I was gonna be like… blue, why do you wanna find out? Here’s my number. What do you think people are gonna do my dude, how do you see this going any other way than how it went?”

A viewer responds, “You can’t take a joke lmao,” then asks about her thong again. That’s when she really goes in.
“What do you think a joke is?” asks Negaoryx. She brings up comedian John Mulaney, then says if he was on stage and just asked a random woman in the audience what color her thong was, it wouldn’t be a joke. “You haven’t gotten to the joke yet, we got to the part where you were being a dick,” she says. Then she brings up comedian Mike Birbiglia.
“Mike Birbiglia has this really great bit, where he talks about how jokes have been ruined by people like yourself who say sh—tty misogynistic things and then when someone calls them out on it, they say ‘I’m joking.'”
Those same people then complain that no one can joke anymore in the workplace.
“No, the rest of us can still joke,” she explains. “You can’t because you were never joking in the first place, you were just being a misogynistic, sexist piece of sh—t. And then you don’t like hearing that, because someone’s holding a mirror up to you and it makes you uncomfortable.
“Me telling you you’re not joking is me asking for you to hold yourself accountable to be a better person, because you’re not right now,” she finishes. “I’m sorry if that’s hard for you to hear, cause you think you’re the hero of your own story – but you’re a footnote in everyone else’s.”

It’s hard to believe that Negaoryx was ready with this dressing down, but sadly, she has to think about it a lot:
Unfortunately it's because I see these kinds of comments really regularly, and after 4.5 years of doing this I just know how I feel about it without having to think, you know? It's nothing new, the only difference is I said it out loud instead of thinking it to myself.
