Gender norms are a subset of social norms that relate specifically to gender differences.
According to Unicef, “they are informal and deeply entrenched. and widely held beliefs about gender roles, power relations, standards, or expectations that govern human behaviors.”
These “gender norms” have changed over time, and differ based on location, religion, and culture, but there’s also been pushback like we’re seeing today.
Researcher Paul Fairie recently published a thread on Twitter that sources articles dating back to 1886 which claim that men are becoming “too feminine” and women are becoming “too masculine.”
