We’ve all had *that* incident in high school that will forever be talked about: The big scandal that administrators usually try to hush up, which of course only makes it loom larger, cementing it as part of its mythology. In my school, it was when a group of seniors led a cow up a flight of large stairs, meaning it wasn’t so much a “scandal” as that year’s senior prank (still undefeated, and for those who don’t know, cows can walk down stairs, they’ll just avoid it at all cost).
TV writer and producer Alison Bennett recently asked “What was the biggest scandal at your high school?” after noting that she’d been collecting responses on Instagram first. It’s surprising how many responses included inappropriate student-teacher behavior, theft, and, for some reason, teachers accidentally eating pot brownies.
