Toronto dad Christopher Doyle is about to get a cat. He doesn’t want one, but his daughter created an extremely compelling PowerPoint which he then made the mistake of sharing with the Internet. If there’s one thing the Internet loves, it’s cats. After that comes precocious kids and visual stunts. He didn’t stand a chance.
Doyle posted the four slides of her argument on Twitter, writing, “Our daughter made a PowerPoint,” and adding a cat and laugh-crying emoji for emphasis. Her arguments in each panel are extremely sound, mentioning how her siblings would love it, how she will deal with the litter box and keep the cat mainly in her room, and former promises of a hamster that never came to anything. Here’s her thesis:
“You would never have to listen to me ask for a cat again.”
“PLEASE SERIOUSLY YOU PROMISED ME A HAMSTER 5 YEARS AGO BUT THAT NEVER HAPPENED JUST LET ME HAVE THIS.”
“It would literally be the happiest day of my life pls.”
“Thank you for watching and pls consider.”
The PowerPoint was a massive hit and people were quick to share their own pro-cat arguments. Mostly pictures of their own cute cats:
She actually told us she wants a black cat for that reason…

May i recommend a Devon Rex? Hypoallergenic, does not shed hair, very gentle and social. pic.twitter.com/ujjzOIEYpp

As someone who has survived PTSD in part because of the support of my cat I must endorse this pitch.
Fact: Cats improve quality of life by 1852%. This is irrefutable.

In a series of updates, Doyle wrote how pleased his daughter was by the attention and the fact that her opinion was being bolstered by Twitter.

And it worked! The cat is happening and they’re going for a rescue, making it a recycled cat. That’s another bonus for the argument:

We visited our local Humane Society today. Due to covid, they are appointment only for rescues, so we are booking one for next week! After that, we did some in-person research at the local pet store (wearing masks, of course!) This little guy has already been adopted. pic.twitter.com/8d9ZrLBNKZ

Unfortunately for Doyle, it seems like the kids have learned something from this experience and it wasn’t the lesson he wanted:

Teach your kids to use PowerPoint and before you know it you’ll have an entire menagerie.
