We live in the digital age. Unfortunately, that means everything on our phones and computers isn’t 100% private. It should be. But, your nudes can be hacked.
The fact that famous people have experienced “revenge porn” isn’t a reason to stop sending nudes to your partner.
You should do what makes you feel good. Without shame. The people who should be ashamed are the ones who tried to profit by breaching a simple social contract: human beings deserve privacy. It’s a human right. It’s all but spelled out in the US Constitution, though some argue it isn’t. Those people probably love being virtual peeping toms.
What’s tough to understand is why people are interested in seeing naked photos of famous people. It’d be one thing if an extremely famous hot person wanted to show you their body. That would be a real thrill.
But stealing something meant for someone else? Frankly, it sucks the joy out of the nude.
People who are really into naked photos that were not specifically meant for them are creeps and have likely never received a nude photo consensually.
And yet, curiosity often gets the best of us. We hear about sexy celebs revealing themselves, and a switch flips in our brains. We should at least know about it… right?
Here are some celebrities who unfortunately had their nudes leaked:
1. Bella Thorne
The actress, model, and singer famous for roles in movies like The Babysitter and the Scream TV series was threatened by a hacker who had access to her nude photos. The hacker texted her a message, but before that person could successfully blackmail her, Bella “took her power back” by preemptively releasing the photos herself. “It’s my decision now,” she wrote. “U can’t control my life u never will!”
2. Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart’s nude photos were leaked in the 2017 massive hacking of celebrity nudes. While nonconsensually stealing her private photos is bad, she’s not ashamed of her body or showing it off in her work for the purposes of a good scene. She said in an interview about American audiences responding to nude scenes, “We are weirder about s**t like that. You kind of have to take yourself personally out of it. My personal feeling about that is that I’m really unashamed, but within the context of the story, there’s a lot of shame.”
3. Amanda Seyfriend
Intimate photos of the actress best-known for Mean Girls and Les Misérables, were leaked by a third party. They depicted sexual moments with her former boyfriend who is thought not to have been involved in the leak. She and her lawyers threatened legal action against any website that continued to feature the pictures.
4. Jessica Alba
In 2010, several topless photos appeared online while Jessica Alba was pregnant with her daughter. Now the mother of 3, the actress has shown she’s not ashamed of her body even now with stunning bikini photos.
5. Mila Kunis
While she may have taken her top off in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, the actress was not ready to see photos from her phone all over the internet in 2011. One of the photos included Friends With Benefits co-Justin Timberlake.
6. Miley Cyrus
Though she’s clearly comfortable in her own skin, that’s no excuse for taking the singer and actor’s hacked photos from her phone in 2017. Miley has, however, attempted to challenge Instagram’s nudity guidelines several times on her own. Just go look at what she posts consensually, you creeps.
7. Selena Gomez
Her Instagram was hacked, leading to several nudes of herself and Justin Bieber surfacing on the internet. Not sure how hacking an Instagram account means the nudes drop, but apparently people are very aware of what she does on the app. This weekend she liked and unliked a photo of her ex. Scandalous! This was a real news story in the news.
8. Kirsten Dunst
The actress was the victim of a big iCloud hack in 2017. She told E! “I try to have a sense of humor about a really unfortunate situation.” She tweeted “Thanks iCloud” along with a pizza and poop emoji. She seems to have taken it in stride. The FBI investigated and eventually found the culprit. He got 18 months in prison.
9. Rosario Dawson
Rosario Dawson, the actress best known for her roles in Kids and Rent, was also a victim of the 2014 hacking known as “The Fappening.” She is currently dating Senator Cory Booker.
10. Megyn Kelly
The TV news host had her iCloud hacked and a nude photo of her on the beach surfaced. She denied the photo’s authenticity. She’s no stranger to terrible behavior by men. She spoke out about former boss Roger Ailes forcing her to “do a twirl” for him, as depicted in the movie Bombshell.
11. Kaley Cuoco
The Big Bang Theory and Flight Attendant star claimed the naked photos circulating on Reddit and 4Chan were fakes, but they surfaced around the same time as The Fappening in 2014. Who’s to say? She has clearly moved on with her life now that the guy who hacked her is in prison.
“If you don’t send your boyfriend naked pictures, then I feel bad for him” that’s what Rihanna had to say in 2009 when photos she’d sent to her lover ended up online. Though the invasion of her privacy was one of the worst things that has happened to her, she refused to be ashamed of what she did.
13. Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift was apparently hacked in the great 2014 iCloud scandal. She tweeted “You got NOTHING” and to “have fun Photoshopping.” Whatever photos and videos exist online, Swift claims are faked. Yet, they’re still out there. Along with a recorded conversation between her and Kanye West. Another invasion of someone’s privacy we should probably forget.
14. Kate Upton
Kate Upton is a world-famous swimsuit model. Just because she’s a public figure, however, doesn’t mean we should all have access to her nudes. She’d sent something to her then-boyfriend now-husband Justin Verlander, and once again, the great 2014 iCloud hack exposed the photos to the world. Her lawyers said: “We intend to pursue anyone disseminating or duplicating these illegally obtained images to the fullest extent possible.” They did so.
15. Scarlett Johansson
Before she was an Avenger, the actress found her nude photos leaked online after an email hack. She contacted the FBI, and the culprit was brought to justice. He served 10 years in prison. ScarJo had this to say: “It was such an invasion. I just felt like as a woman, I felt like it’s such a degrading and awful thing to have to go through.”
16. Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence, possibly the biggest star to fall victim to The Fappening of 2014, was also the most outspoken about the travesty. She told Vanity Fair the leak “is not a scandal. It is a sex crime.” It was treated as such.
17. Chris Brown
Chris Brown is a bad person but that doesn’t mean we should take away his right to privacy. The musician claims the photos were leaked by an ex in a revenge porn scenario. He seemed to take it in stride: “Another day!! Another lesson! Another party!! I’m so thankful to have the support of my fans with my music! Love.” he tweeted.
18. Justin Bieber
The singer-songwriter’s naked photos were stolen as part of a hack of Selena Gomez’s phone. Their private trip to Bora Bora apparently inspired a photoshoot. Justin was a bit broken up by the whole thing saying, “how can they do this? Like, I feel super violated. Like, I feel like I can’t step outside and feel like I can go outside naked. Like, you should feel comfortable in your own space… especially that far away.”
19. Tiger Woods
The golfer and his ex Lindsey Vonn were the victims of “a despicable invasion of privacy.” The naked photo of the couple was shared by TMZ and Woods threatened to sue them if it wasn’t taken down. They rightfully did so.
20. Chris Evans
Captain America himself was the victim of his own technical mistake. He was sharing a video he’d recorded on his phone, the end of which featured an NSFW image of… we think… himself. He used his superpower for getting a ton of attention for good. He tweeted: “Now that I have your attention …. VOTE Nov 3rd!!!”
