I don’t know how much attention you’ve been paying to celebrity gossip, but there’s a rumor going around that Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello are a thing. Whether you believe this is a real thing or an elaborate publicity stunt to promote their joint single, “Senorita,” doesn’t matter.
What matters is that during the 2019 VMAs, held at Newark’s Prudential Center on Monday, Mendes and Cabello performed the song and trolled us all in the process.
You see, neither Mendes nor Cabello have confirmed the romance. In fact, they’ve remained decidedly coy about the whole thing. They’re not denying that they’re together either, and they certainly seem to enjoy fanning the flames if their VMA performance is anything to go by.

Cabello danced seductively around Mendes, writhing up and down his body, touching his biceps (when did Shawn Mendes get biceps?) and generally trying to play up the sultry, er, senorita vibe.
The two even shared ridiculously romantic (and admittedly hot) moments of singing nose to nose and looking as though they might kiss. I was almost convinced for a hot second that they actually are a thing.

There’s no denying that they have chemistry—”Senorita” is a great pop song in general, but seeing them perform it live definitely took it to another level because they do work very well together. However, am I convinced that they’re truly in a relationship in real life? Eh, I’m not so sure about that.
#VMAs are over, but we’re still waiting for that kiss tho 👀 @Camila_Cabello @ShawnMendes pic.twitter.com/0dBpbiBFa5

However, both the folks in the audience at the ceremony as well as the viewing public bought the bait hook, line, and sinker. In fact, they were waiting for the kiss that never came and nearly losing their minds over the smoking hot vibe between Cabello and Mendes, who actually won the VMA for best collaboration. We may never know if their connection is real, but it looked that way on TV, so maybe that’s all that matters.
