John Travolta Accidentally Gave Taylor Swift’s VMA To A Drag Queen

Bless John Travolta’s soul, but he hasn’t necessarily had the best of luck at awards shows. Who could forget his awkward moment at the 2014 Oscars, where he introduced Idina Menzel as “Adele Dazeem” before dropping the f-bomb on live TV?

Well, he’s done it again, folks, this time at the 2019 MTV VMAs, held at Newark’s Prudential Center on Monday, where he accidentally gave Taylor Swift’s award to a drag queen.

It was an innocent enough mistake, I suppose. After all, Jade Jolie is such a convincing Taylor Swift impersonator that the artist herself offered her a spot in the “You Need To Calm Down” video.

Swift won the video of the year award, presented by Travolta and Queen Latifah, for that song on Monday night’s ceremony… and that’s where things went awry.

After Swift’s name was announced as the winner, she invited the entire cast of the “You Need To Calm Down” video on stage with her, including Jolie. That’s when Travolta tried to hand over the moon man statue to the drag queen instead of Swift herself.

I suppose that can only be a compliment to how good Jolie’s drag is—Travolta couldn’t help but be confused.

It’s a shame that John Travolta is such a mess, but it’s also pretty great. After all, we watch ceremonies like this for the LOLs, and it’s moments like this that make it memorable and that we’re sure to be talking about for years to come. Can someone please start a petition for Travolta to present at every award show ever? I can’t imagine anything better.

Though Travolta did eventually realize his mistake, it was a bit too late. Twitter wasn’t about to let him get away with it and he was roasted mercilessly by users for the remainder of the evening.
