If you’re here, then you are one of the many who spent last weekend (or the last several nights) binging Netflix’s new cult-favorite series, Russian Doll. The Natasha Lyonne vehicle (in which she acts, directs, produces, and writes!) managed to provide a dark and wholly female twist on the Groundhog Day trope and is already being touted as one of the year’s best shows.
It is deeply funny but also painfully real, and really painful, and encompasses perfectly what its like to be a professional single woman in her 30s. Some parts are slapstick and some are pure horror. Some scenes mirror the funny aspects of pop culture, while others shine light on its grimier characteristics. It is a multi-faceted, multi-layered show…almost reminds you of a…Russian Doll………(sorry).
