Everyone’s Confused After The Entire ‘Game Of Thrones’ Cast Went On Stage At The 2019 Emmys—Except For Bran

Despite a rushed, at times non-sensical, and generally lackluster (and that’s being kind) final season, Game of Thrones has been one of the most popular and influential TV shows of the last decade and it was a shame to say goodbye to it this year. However, we got another chance to do just that at the 2019 Emmy Awards, which broadcasted live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Monday night.

Pretty much the entire cast of Game of Thrones came on stage together during the ceremony. Present were Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, Gwendoline Christie, Alfie Allen, Maisie Williams, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Sophie Turner, and Carice van Houten. Isaac Hempstead Wright, however, was not up there with his fellow castmates.

It wasn’t that Wright was absent from the Emmys altogether—he was right there in the audience clapping them on—he just… didn’t come up on stage with them. It’s unclear whether he wasn’t invited (unlikely) or simply decided to bow out of this one (also unlikely but possible), but either way, viewers noted the weirdness of the whole situation. I mean, Bran became king! How can he not come up on stage during a Game of Thrones tribute?

While it was also a little strange that John Bradley, who played Samwell Tarly, wasn’t up there with his costars, especially given the larger role he took on later in the series, it was Bran’s absence that caused the biggest stir on social media.

The Emmys stage is pretty big, and there’s no denying there was plenty of room up there to accommodate not only the actors who stayed in their seats during the segment but likely the entire Game of Thrones production crew and writing team too. Given that this is the last time we’ll be seeing them all together like this, it just seems like a strange decision regardless of who made it.
