Rarely Seen Celebrity Photos From The Early 2000s (50 Pics)

Real romance sparks for ‘Notebook’ couple in 2008.

Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling played lovers in The Notebook, and it wasn’t long before they started a real romance of their own. Actors can’t spend that much time pretending to be in love before they start dating and pretending to be in love in real life!

Sadly, the love did not last, but through no real fault of their own. As Gosling said in an interview: “Show business is the bad guy. When both people are in show business it’s too much show business. It takes all of the light, so nothing else can grow.”

Megan Fox wows the world with her bikini body.

The star of Transformers and Jennifer’s Body shows why she quickly became known as one of the hottest actresses in the early 2000s.

Yes, she played the title role in a horror movie about her body, but why wouldn’t her body be the subject of an entire film? Does she still got it now? Ask her 9 million Instagram followers and Machine Gun Kelly. They agree. She does.

Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey enjoying a birthday celebration while filming ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ (2003).

Charlie Kaufman and Michel Gondrey teamed up for one of the best films of the decade, and their stars seemed to love the film. Here Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey take a break from shooting the drama about erasing memories of their exes.

Winslet claims that her role in this film helped her land more serious roles in the future: “I think creatively it opened people’s eyes to other sides of myself as a performer. I think that perhaps if it hadn’t been for that, maybe I wouldn’t necessarily have been considered for something like The Reader. I was able to show my versatility in Eternal Sunshine, and versatility obviously expands in all kinds of different directions.”

Kylie and Kendall Jenner at the Keeping Up With The Kardashians viewing party, 2007.

Wow. Were we ever so young? No one knew what a smash the reality show would be. And I’m certain these two had no idea what was coming in their future. Or maybe they did. The rich are different. They might have been told from the start their lives were going to be filled with glamor and a lot of cameras.

A few billion dollars later, and audiences are still watching the two grow up. We will likely keep watching them for a long while until, of course, the imminent peasant revolution.

Scarjo shows off a new tattoo in Paris in 2012.

Before we all felt the warm embrace of the Avengers movies, Scarlett Johansson was an indie movie darling and quickly becoming a household name. Here she is getting some new ink. We’re all lucky to get to see it.

Sophia Coppola saw something in the actress as early as her role in Ghost World: “She had that husky voice even then and seemed mature beyond her years. There was some quality about her that stood out and I connected with. She’s able to convey a lot without saying anything. I had a feeling about her. I wasn’t surprised she went on to do lots of different things after but I’m surprised when I look back at how young she was. She was only 17.”

Two of the Wayans Brothers at the ‘Scary Movie’ premiere in 2000.

Can you name these two members of the Wayans comedy family? There are ten of them. Ten! This is, you probably know, Shawn and Marlon. The funny duo had their hands in countless movies and had their own TV sitcom.

So much talent in one family! Anna Faris was nervous to star in the first Scary Movie, but shared this advice from Keenen: “Keenen told me two amazing bits of advice. One was that there’s no vanity in comedy, and two, don’t wink at the audience. You have to be willing to embrace the idea that the audience is going to think you’re an idiot. That was an important lesson to me.”

Jessica Alba catches some much-needed Zzzs and some sun rays in Miami.

Jessica Alba used to wake up every morning at 5 AM to get to the set of Dark Angel. It makes sense that she would need to catch up on her beauty rest. Good for her for killing two birds with one stone.

Here are some words of inspiration from the movie star: “I’m really lucky. It’s hard work and you don’t realize you can do it, until you do it. All of a sudden you’re in your fourth episode and you don’t know how you got here and how you got through the pages and pages of dialogue that you don’t even remember.”

Lindsay Lohan, at age 24, under house arrest.

The Mean Girls and Parent Trap star Lindsay Lohan had a tougher start to the Willennium than most (remember that Will Smith album Willennium. You don’t? I’m old). Lindsay plead no-contest to accusations that she stole a $2,500 necklace. As a result she was forced to stay home or face jail time. Sounds like a sweet deal to me, actually. Here she is relaxing with a not-so-fashionable anklet.

Lindsay may have fallen from grace after her start as a Disney star, but she did her time and ended up distracting the public from her troubles with the law by starring in Liz & Dick (2012) and The Canyons (2013), two of the absolute worst movies ever made. Just terrible. Can’t even remember what happened before those two as a result so good job, Lindsay!

Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz lounging on the set of the coke-smuggling thriller Blow (2001).

Whether you love cocaine or REALLY love cocaine, Blow is an exciting movie. The standard crime-drama-bio-pic is lifted to new heights because of the chemistry between Depp and an actress known well in Spain but not yet in the US, Penelope Cruz.

via reddit

Cruz learned as many English phrases as she could and had this to say about working on the film: “Then after I worked with him on Blow, I learned how to say, ‘I want to work with Johnny Depp again!’ He’s very addictive and he just gets better and better over the years.”

Professional Skateboarder Jason Dill doesn’t realize he’s documenting history during hungover walk.

“Professional skateboarder” (that is to say, a person who makes money skateboarding) is not something I believe my grandparents saw coming. They also probably had no idea what was going to happen on September 11th, 2001, a day that is forever branded on the memories of people who lived through it.

Jason Dill and his friend Mike were taking a walk through Manhattan after a long night of drinking. Mike took this photo at the exact moment 19 hijackers changed the world forever. They had no idea what they were really seeing at the moment or how to react.

Tyra Banks shows why she’s on top long before America’s Next Top Model.

Tyra Banks was signed to her first modeling agency in 1990. Thus began an illustrious career as one of the biggest names in modeling. A decade in, she was modeling lingerie, starring in movies, and then eventually hosting one of the best reality competition shows of all time.

She’s come a long way from her first shoot for Seventeen Magazine all those years ago. This photo shows how fierce she could be.

Jim Carrey’s makeup on How The Grinch Stole Christmas took hours to complete, and Carrey ruined it so often, the makeup director needed therapy.

We all love Jim Carrey. Even when he’s in a bad place. Several movies include blooper reels that make it seem like he’s always “on” during shoots. His brunch with a Dr. Seuss legend, however, didn’t sound fun for anyone.

via Universal Pictures

Here’s what makeup artist Kazuhiro Tsuji had to say about working with Carrey: “On set, [Carrey] was really mean to everybody and at the beginning of the production they couldn’t finish. After two weeks we only could finish three days’ worth of shooting schedule, because suddenly he would just disappear and when he came back, everything was ripped apart. We couldn’t shoot anything.” He stepped away from shooting for a few weeks before returning to finish the film.

Lebron James watches his second-favorite sport: pro wrestling.

Lebron James holding a flip phone is very 2003. He attended Monday Night Raw and clearly wanted to remember the moment. As a lifelong Cleveland Cavs fan, nothing brings me more joy than knowing this kid would bring a championship title to my hometown.

Before he had a championship of his own to pose with, Lebron posed with a WWE championship belt and released his own Nikes inspired by Ric Flair. A true fan of sports of all kinds.

Halle Berry reveals a lot in Swordfish (2001).

Is Swordfish a great movie? I don’t know if that question has ever been asked by anyone who isn’t a salaried film critic forced to watch it. Everyone else is in the same boat, asking “how good did Halle Berry look?” And the answer is great. She did a nude scene in this cyberterrorism thriller and I literally don’t remember anything else that happened in the film. Travolta is in it, I think? Who cares?

Here’s what Berry had to say about it: “So much of my life I was afraid to [do a nude scene]. With the success of my Dorothy Dandridge project and the critical acclaim that brought me, I finally felt that I didn’t have to prove myself anymore.”

Heath Ledger on the set of The Dark Knight in 2008.

Tragically, we lost Heath Ledger before he could see how comic book fans and average movie-goers alike praised his performance as The Joker. His bizarre, frightening, and funny moments came to life because he took the role as seriously as possible.

Here’s what his costar Christian Bale had to say about working with him: “Our first scene was in an interrogation room together, and I saw that he’s a helluva actor who’s completely committed to it and totally gets the tone that Chris [Nolan] is trying to create with this. We’re not going for actors revealing their enjoyment of playing a wacky caricature. We’re treating this as serious drama. You go into character and you stay in the character. I love that. I find that so ridiculous that I love it, and I take that very seriously. Heath was definitely embracing that. When he was in the makeup and the garb he was in character the whole time; and when he took it off he was absolutely fantastic company to be around.”
