“Dear Men, What Is Preventing You From Looking Like This?” (31 Memes)

The newest meme is all about body positivity, in my opinion, even if definitely didn’t start there. On Monday, Twitter user @katiey_ke_ shared a picture of a ripped torso, with no head or legs, with the caption, “Dear men, what is preventing you from looking like this?”

She added a heart-eyed emoji for good measure, in case you didn’t know she likes her men headless and toned. To be fair, I am not one hundred percent sure she is a woman, she could just be some random troll pretending to be a woman. But my guess is that she is a random troll who is also a woman.

There was an instantaneous backlash to this tweet as people who have been sitting in their houses for two months of quarantine while stress-eating saw it. Body positivity isn’t just for women. Men are also being held to unreasonable standards for how they “should” look, and for the most part, those standards are incredibly difficult to achieve.

Some people tried to point out that this tweet was body shaming, even though it was directed at a man:

Personally, I think giving a lot of attention to nobodies tweeting weird, rude stuff is not super productive, but in this case, it has at least resulted in the very fun, celebratory “dear men what is preventing you from looking like this?” meme.

People took Katie’s original tweet and turned it into copypasta, pairing it with whatever they’re hoping men or women should look like. They’re mostly jokes, but some of them seem very sincere in their admiration for all the different types of bodies and faces out there in the world. Even if they’re cartoons.

Nice try, Katie. We like our men looking all sorts of ways.
