The Brief: People have gone from sincerely sharing the person/bands they’d hold up the Your Music Saved Me sign to, to trolling the format with Your Music Saved Me memes.
Twitter user @jinthirlwall had a very surefire formula for Twitter engagement: using a meme photo that’s already popular, asking people to share their opinions on important musical artists, and using the “Boomboclat” in a way that makes no sense.
Music can change how we feel about life, the world and even ourselves, so it’s no wonder that most of the initial responses were about real artists. It’s also no wonder that the funniest responses are not.
People started taking the “Your Music Saved Me” sign girl and pairing her side-by-side with more bizarre images, like Pikachu or a dog wailing on the guitar.
Whatever has saved you will work in this meme format, because real music is heard with the heart, not the ears. Who would go on the right-hand side for you?
