Sometimes on the subreddit r/AmItheA–hole, I’m pretty convinced the story is fake, because no one could be so oblivious to the fact that they are a total a–hole. On the other hand, I’ve met some pretty oblivious a–holes in my life, so who knows? I’ll let you just for yourself if this story posted by u/SweetStickyThrowAway (sure, that’s a real name) is true or not.
“AITA for convincing my girlfriend NOT to wear a white dress on our wedding day?” he asks.
He says he is 32 and his soon to be wife is 23, a classic relationship age gap on Reddit. They’re getting married in a few months:
I come from a very religious house hold with strong Cristian[sic] beliefs and one of the traditions in my family is if the woman getting married isn’t still a virgin they shouldn’t wear a white dress on their wedding day.
My family knows my soon to be wife wasn’t a virgin when I met her because my mom asked me when I started dating her if she was pure, and I was honest and told her she had boyfriends before she met me.
My wife was really upset when I asked her if she could wear a coloured dress on our wedding day but she agreed, so we’re looking at getting glittery blue dress instead.
Now she’s saying she won’t marry me because she’s too humiliated by the whole situation, but I really don’t see how it’s a big deal. AITA?
The OP was ruled an absolute a–hole by the commenters of Reddit and his offense is so egregious, his story made it to Twitter, where it was posted by writer Jessica Valenti. A lot of people also thought this must be fake because it’s so perfectly designed to enrage both feminists and Christians:
Strong fake vibes from this one

Yeah, that raised a lot of red flags

But the people who believe it are very happy to hear the soon to be wife maybe this man’s soon to be ex because she does not deserve this (if it’s really happening):
(That’s a joke, by the way, and YES! RUN!!)

This woman needs to run, not walk, to the nearest exit.

Right?? All I read was the header and I thought I bet there's a huge age gap. Ew

The moment I hear the word "pure", yeah…

There is much to be suspicious about here, but it’s also true that there are a lot of conservative men and families who are a little too obsessed with the sexual history of the women joining their lives. Just watch the latest season of The Crown. Purity culture ruins lives.
