There’s been a lot of online discussion about the Peloton ad that went viral because it feels like a hostage video. Discussion about the ad has gone in all sorts of directions, touching on fitness culture, sexism, and what exactly would happen to the actress who got unfortunately famous for her eyebrow performance. Some people even admitted to getting their spouses the Peloton as a gift themselves, claiming the receiver loved it.
It’s true that there are “fitness couples” out there who love monitoring their bodies together. NFL correspondent Jane Slater admitted she was one of those couples in response to a story about a happy Peloton customer, but their shared interest did not have a happy ending.

“An Ex Boyfriend once got me a Fitbit for Christmas,” she wrote. “I loved it. We synched up, motivated each other… didn’t hate it until he was unaccounted for at 4 am and his physical activity levels were spiking on the app, wish the story wasn’t real.”
Spoiler alert: he was not enrolled in an OrangeTheory class at 4am.

She added, “Spoiler alert: he was not enrolled in an OrangeTheory class at 4 am.”
Damn. That Fitbit thing is like a digital leash. Well, better to know, I guess, though Slater had a couple of wild stories to share about horrible oblivious boyfriends:
I also had a guy get drunk and bring another girl home forgetting I was spending the night there. We were set to go to church the next morning and I stayed in to get sleep. I could write a book.

But she has a sense of humor about the whole thing:
My girlfriend once said “one day we will laugh about this” as I sobbed uncontrollably in the car. I have now many times bahahahah

Calling the police station bc I was at his home with balloons for his birthday and the behavior was out of character 😂

Everyone else has a sense of humor about it, too. There were a lot of jokes about how short this physical activity spike probably was:
I didn’t realize two minutes of physical activity was enough to trigger an Apple Watch.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, let me present to you the timeline of events:
Fitbit, 4am: normal levels
Fitbit, 4:01am: increased heart rate, extreme wrist activity
Fitbit, 4:03am: normal levels
I rest my case.https://t.co/BJscWB4bEM

Physical level spikes at 4am. Returns to normal at 4:01 am

Some folks didn’t get the implications here, so just in case you need it spelled out:
Bro, his physical points were spiking because he was smashing some random chick other than slater at 4am…lol.

And incredibly, Slater’s story is hardly the only of its kind. Apparently, plenty of men get caught cheating as a result of technology!
I knew someone who was talking to her boyfriend on her phone when her husband and daughter pulled to her job to pick her up and her phone connected to the car Bluetooth and they heard enough of the conversation to know what she was up to

called my ex repeatedly one night without any answer which was v bizarre ESPECIALLY bc it was my bday…. continued calling throughout the night until he accidentally picked up on his apple watch, mid f*ck with another girl from his hometown L O L good times

I know a guy who was driving through a shopping district and got caught at a light near a hotel. His wife had his phone checking movie times for a nearby theater. As his car came to stop at the red light, his phone automatically connected to the hotel’s Wi-Fi.

Heard on a local radio show the other day, a woman was reading a restaraunt review, and the writer included a photo from inside. The reader saw her husband with another woman in the photo, and confessed when she confronted him later. Thought that was about as unique as it can get

Tracking every movement your honey makes is a bad move, but sometimes the fitness gods try to protect their own. Slater might have been working towards body goals with her old boyfriend, but unfortunately, it was not relationship goals. Now she’s free to be fit with someone who deserves her bits.
