Influencers have been around long enough that we’re all familiar with the tropes: people who start all their messages to followers with “hey guys” and then proceed to ramble on about how everyone has been asking them about their skin, recipes, household cleaners etc. Finally, they sell a product. It’s important for influencers to look amazing, have flawless homes, and basically make everyone else feel bad about how they’re living in comparison. They thrive on Instagram.
It’s not surprising that TikTokers have started mocking influencers, since it’s an app where people are more likely to get popular by being funny and self-deprecating rather than perfect. There are also lots of popular “challenges” that involve light pranks. The new TikTok trend involves pretending to be a classic influencer by “recording a message on your phone in front of someone (Partner, Friend, Family, anyone) while secretly recording their reaction with your camera flipped.”
It’s actually pretty funny to watch how supportive or absolutely not supportive people are when their SOs try to go influencer. In a post from @abbboo42, she starts by saying, “So I know a lot of you are asking how we keep our house so clean…” and you can see the expression her man makes to that:
The commenters found it hilarious, too:
@abbboo42we keep a reeeaallyyy clean house clearly hahaha the biggest eye roll ! ##NobodyNeedsToKnow ##influencerchallenge ##fyp ##xyzbca♬ original sound – abbboo42
Others are unbelievably supportive over the idea that their girlfriend might be going big with makeup tutorials on TikTok, pulling out the ring light and doing a little happy dance:
@caseycakez_Get you a man who supports & hypes up yur dreams 😂❤️ ((@scuba_steve20 )) ##influencerchallenge ##fyp ##foryou ##relationshipgoals ##goals ##hypemeup ##viral♬ original sound – caseycakez_
Or they look at them with absolute disgust and confusion, which is honestly a bit sad. Confusion I can understand, but if you really believe this is happening, why are you with someone whose hobbies you wouldn’t support? Get with the program or ask what the f*ck is going on:

This one does have the added element of spending hundreds of dollars on creams, so I totally get it:

We all have our limits for how supportive we can be when it comes to influencing. Not being able to pay the rent is probably mine.
