Wise philosopher J.Lo once said “Love don’t cost a thing.” If that’s the case, why is this woman so dang angry over her engagement ring?
Facebook group MumsNet had quite the chatter recently when a woman posted about her “cheap” engagement ring.
Her fiancé proposed with a white-gold, diamond-solitaire Tiffany & Co. ring.
That sounds like a thoughtful and classic ring choice, but we will hear her out.
The post began:
(The obsession with engagement rings and their size is truly mind-boggling.)
She went on to share that he makes six figures, insinuating he could afford something larger.
May we remind everyone that $1674 is still a lot of money to spend in general. That’s one month of someone’s mortgage on a finger. Do your research, girl. Minimalism is IN.
She continues to say she knows he’d be upset if she made a fuss over it.
“He’ll be more disappointed in me for making a fuss over it when, in his eyes, it fits, and there’s nothing actually wrong with it rather than being disappointed that I’m not truly happy with it.”
Yes! Correct! There is nothing wrong with it!
We will cut her a little slack here, though. She mentioned she would have loved to pick out the ring as a couple.
She then asked the group if anyone else had been in a similar situation.
It did not go well.
One person commented and said “My rings are from the wish app. Total of 25 dollars. I don’t care. Our love is more important than the cost of a ring.”
“A ring does not make a good marriage. Hard work does. I’ve been married for over 40 years and don’t have a diamond ring. I never wanted one. I thought it was a waste of hard-earned money. Guess what? I’m just as happy!!!”
One commenter agreed with wanting an expensive ring, but not the way OP shamed her partner. That was about as close it came to the woman getting any sympathy in the group.
