If you’ve ever had a Panera lemonade, there might be more in there than you bargained for.
That was the subject of a TikTok from @sarahebaus that went viral when she discovered that the restaurant’s Mango Yuzu Citrus Charged Lemonade was chock full of caffeine. (Scroll to the end for the full video.)
The TikToker uses her local Panera as a remote working spot, and the Charged Lemonade is her favorite drink.
And since Panera offered free refills, she regularly had 4-5 of them at a time.
Then she noticed something else. “Man, when I work at Panera, I feel great, I feel awesome! I get so much done!” she said.
Then her husband checked the nutritional info. Turns out the lemonade has 260 milligrams of caffeine.
This revelation floored her.
If you’re wondering, a single cup of coffee contains about 95 milligrams of caffeine, according to the USDA. So she’s chugging almost three cups of coffee with every lemonade.
Oh, and the recommended daily intake limit for caffeine is 400 milligrams (mg) or less for adults, according to the FDA.
She said: “I don’t drink coffee. I don’t have caffeine very much — I thought.”
“I feel like the Hulk,” she added.
The video went viral on Tiktok and then again when it was reposted on Twitter.
Lots of people were surprised by this, too. Who knew that Panera lemonades were also weapons-grade stimulants?
Others suggested diluting the caffeine by mixing it with something else.
And to some folks, that super high amount of stimulant sounded great!
The moral of the story is: That Panera lemonade might taste great, but be sure what you’re drinking!
