TikToker Starts Conversation About ‘Red Flag’ Christmas Gifts Wealthy Employers Send

This is the season of giving (and receiving). But pay attention to what your employer gives (or doesn’t) give you, because there are some red flag Christmas gifts.

How do you know if you’re working for a bad company? TikToker Matt Sandoval (@matt.sandoval7) broke it down in a video that went viral. (Scroll to the end to watch the full video.)

He addressed some red flags to watch out for.

“If your company is profitable and they’re either giving you a thank you email — ‘Happy Holidays, enjoy it with your family’ — or a $10 gift card to Starbucks and you don’t even drink coffee, that’s worrisome,” he said.

His video has racked up more than 400,000 views. And commenters chimed with their own red flag Christmas gifts they’ve received at work.

Of course, some employers give the best gift: cold hard cash.

And if you’re wondering, the normal holiday bonus is typically 2 to 5 percent of your salary.

According to a survey by Accounting Principals, the average company bonus is $858. Only 21 percent of bonuses are $1,000 or more, and 15 percent of bonuses are less than $100.

Some people don’t get anything, though. Only 67 percent of companies plan to give bonuses this year.

Here’s the video. And be on the lookout for those red flag Christmas gifts. They could be a sign that you’re working for a bad company!
