We’ve done a lot of gross stories here at RuinMyWeek. From Taco Bell employees sharing how beans are made to text messages that’d make you vomit. But this one, it might be the grossest.
Ok, maybe just as gross as the others, but bless Margaret, who dared to touch her boyfriend’s pillows, let alone give them their first thorough wash in 10 years. Yes. Ten. Years.
Now, washing a 10-year-old pillow seems like a lost cause. Might as well throw the whole thing out instead of uncovering what’s lurking deep in those fibers. Right? Right.
However, this guy won’t do it. He just flat out refuses to get new ones.
So one day while he was at work, his girlfriend took advantage of the opportunity. For his and HER well being.
Lucky for us, she detailed the entire process through a nice little TikTok. In the caption, she wrote, “This was worth driving to 3 different stores to find borax.”

At first glance, we want to know what is up with this guy. The pillows are BROWN. They are a SCIENCE EXPERIMENT. They are FLAT. Flatter than FLAT STANLEY.
While there must be some deeply rooted significance to those pillows, that’s not why we’re here. We are here to learn how to masterfully clean a, shall we say, biohazard.
Margaret filled her bathtub up since it can fit all the pillows nicely, and added in two dishwasher tabs to the tub. She sprinkled borax on top and gave the tub a good mix, so every pillow was fully covered. Next, she added bleach to the tub and let the whole concoction soak into the pillows. After the pillows got a good soak, she took them over to the washing machine to give ’em a whirl.
When the pillows are added to the drier it’s like we never knew of their previous existence.
Despite Margaret’s best efforts, the internet wasn’t necessarily as impressed as you’d think. A lot of people had some questions about HER life choices.
