Do we need more reboots? Probably not. However, nostalgia is king and it looks like we’re getting a new Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
There’s a catch, though.
Instead of the sitcom that launched Will Smith’s iconic career, this Fresh Prince is going to be a drama. So, we’re assuming… no Carlton dance???

The trailer begins with Will getting scolded for his behavior in West Philly. (Please note the FREE MEEK and WHAT WOULD MEEK DO? shirts in the trailer – Philly canon at its best.)
“The only reason you’re not in jail is because Uncle Phil called in a favor.”
As it progresses, Will starts warming up to Bel-Air — just like in the original.
Before we get our undies in a bunch, let’s take a look at how this came to fruition. It’s actually really wholesome.
Fresh Prince fan Morgan Cooper had a little fun last year and created a “dark” Fresh Prince trailer. Called Bel-Air, the professional-style trailer has received almost six million views on YouTube.
And guess who found it making the rounds on the internet?
The Fresh Prince himself.
Will Smith was so impressed with Cooper’s creation that he reached out to Cooper.
That's insane. Imagine creating a fan-made Fresh Prince of Bel-Air trailer, Will Smith seeing it & you meet up with him. And now you're teaming up with him for a reboot of such an iconic show.
Talk about a childhood dream come true. https://t.co/saCU0pADQk

OK, this is pretty wild. And very, very cool.
Smith even posted his reaction and the meeting Cooper to his official YouTube account, where we learned Cooper has been a huge Fresh Prince fan since he was five years old.
In the video, Smith said, “This is the first time I heard something where I was like, ‘Yo, that’s an idea that’s brilliant.'”
Smith particularly loved the idea, since he believes there is much more for Fresh Prince to explore.
“As funny as the episodes are, there’s a whole other layer.”
Of course, as with all reboots, you’re gonna get some people riled up.
