23 Funny Tweets About The SCOTUS Ruling Against LGBTQ Workplace Discrimination

It’s been a rough start to Pride month this year.

Not only are we still in the middle of a pandemic, making large celebratory gatherings unwise if not full-on prohibited, but the fact that we still need protests to remind people that Black lives matter has set a particularly somber tone for the Black LGBTQ community. Then Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling had to jump back on her unfortunate and hurtful anti-trans high horse. Oh, and the Trump administration rolled back the Obama-era ruling that prohibited discriminating against trans people seeking medical care.

But in a surprise move this morning, the Supreme Court ruled 6 to 3 that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 absolutely prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. In other words, the highest court in the land has said people can’t be fired for being queer or transgender. Sorry, President Trump!!

Three of the court’s conservative judges disagreed with the ruling, while the four liberal judges, along with wildcard John Roberts and conservative judge Neil Gorsuch all showing up for equal rights for the LGBTQ community. Particularly shocking was that Gorsuch, who was appointed to the court by Trump himself, actually wrote the majority opinion.

This ruling is essentially the first good news we’ve gotten all month, leading to all sorts of celebration. And, as usual, the internet has provided us with some fantastic tweets to commemorate such a momentous occasion.
