There is this idea that bullies always get their comeuppance, A Christmas Story style.
That they all peak in high school and then everything is downhill from senior year and they become bald, fat, and broke bar regulars with sucky jobs.
It’s a nice fantasy, but it’s not always how it goes, as this Twitter thread from @thetzechun proves. They asked, “What does your high school bully do now?”
Some people’s bullies did end up on that karmic downward spiral.
Some bullies became and remained super successful and rich and even attained positions of great power.
Some became internet commenters.
But others grew up and turned their lives around.
They didn’t stay bullies—they changed and became better.
And a whole bunch of people commented that they never got bullied at all, and especially not in high school. Lucky you guys.
Here are what 37 high school bullies are up to now:
1.

No idea where they all are but the last one I saw was at a bar few years ago and he tried to introduce me to his wife as “A good friend of mine from high school”.
I corrected him.

He acted shocked and laughed it off as “good-natured, we were all young and dumb fun”. His wife stood behind him quietly nodding and seeming to confirm my tales of her husband’s, probably continuing, horribleness.

Got addicted to meth and aged like 40 years. It was horrible, I remember I prayed to God during high school that something bad would happen to him and I felt super guilty when I saw him 15 years later. I was like “Whoa God, I meant like…he didn’t get a job he wanted”

Ironically last I heard he was head of Anti-Bullying program in the school district I was in back in the day. To his credit, he did reach out at one point and gave what seemed to be a very real apology and now wants to make sure others never have to suffer from behavior like his.
