Woman Says Her Fiancé Wants His Dad To Make Sure She’s A Virgin Before Their Wedding Night

The posts on the subreddit r/Relationships are always a cornucopia of WTF, but this particular doozy of an entry has people screaming. It’s so insane and absurd, a lot of folks think it’s fake, but the world is crazy. It is entirely possible that the weird cult-like family at the center of this tale exists, and they’re out there fingering each other’s brides. Read and decide for yourself.

The poster is someone with the Reddit handle u/FarReference3 and they say they’re a 22-year-old woman engaged to a 25-year-old man. The two have supposedly been engaged for eight months and the made the decision to wait to have sex after their wedding, which was in two days at the time of this post. That’s when shit hit the fan:

“He has told me earlier that in his family the father checks the virginity of the bride the night before the wedding. I laughed this off as it seriously sounds like a massive joke. No turns out he was dead serious. He wants me, the night before to open my legs up in a small ceremony type thing so his dad can check me while him, his brothers and uncle can watch so that they know I am still ‘pure’.

I told him fat chance I am going to do that and he was begging to me to go through with it and how important it is for him. He said he knew it was slightly embarrassing for me but his mom did and it will prove how much I love him and that I have nothing to hide anyway as I am still a virgin. I left and he was crying, it was very dramatic tbh.”

The OP says that she now wants to call off the wedding, but she’s sad to do it because they are otherwise “genuinely perfect for each other.” She was asking whether or not she should allow this weird incest scenario to play out so she could marry the man of her dreams. The answer from the crowd was emphatically NO.

Author Jessica Valenti shared the story as well—she’s actually written a book on the subject of virginity pressures called The Purity Myth. For what it’s worth, she thinks the story is for real, because she’s heard worse:

Thankfully, there has been an update. If this is a real situation, we can all breath a sigh of relief, because the girl has escaped!

She wrote:

“After reading many good comments I asked him if he would do the same as me but for my mother and sisters and he said no. Absolutely not, that ridiculous.

So I called off the wedding. I’m so upset but I think I did the right thing. He was upset and won’t stop trying to call and message me about it but I’m done.”

For once, Reddit did something good.
