Bare Larson Reveals She Struggled With Anxiety During “Captain Marvel” Filming

Brie Larson might have looked like a total badass while playing Captain Marvel—but the actress doesn’t always feel so confident.

During a Q&A celebrating the two-year anniversary of Captain Marvel, Larson talked about her own struggles with anxiety.

“Something I know I’ve said before, and I’ll say it again because it’s so important to me, is that if…you are somebody that struggles, perhaps struggles with social anxiety, anxiety, depression, or just is somebody that is shy, quiet, these are all things that I identify with myself,” she said.

“It doesn’t mean it has to be a limitation in any way. You can still accomplish great things and also have those be part of you.”

I love when celebrities talk about struggling with and overcoming anxiety. The more we are open about our mental health issues, the less lonely we feel! And that can totally be a superpower.

Larson wasn’t able to reveal anything about the Captain Marvel sequel, but she’s confident her character will continue to inspire.

Larson was humbled to play Captain Marvel, saying that playing a character who was inspirational for so many people was a unique opportunity.

She also ended up being inspired by her experience playing Captain Marvel, explaining that the character is “holding a space that I look to, as like, I want to get there. I am not there, but I want to get there.”

“I’ve changed so much, I’ve grown so much, and so I’m really excited to see what I can bring to Carol and the Captain Marvel sequel with who I am now,” she said. “To see how all of you have embraced Carol, and taken her on, and used her as a symbol for whatever it is. If there’s difficulties that are going on in your life, moments of strength that you need that you can pull from this character and find something, whether it’s a line from the film or from the comics.”
