New Netflix App Lets Quarantined People Binge-Watch Together

If you’ve been living under a rock and weren’t aware of the ballooning coronavirus/COVID1-19 pandemic you should probably return to your below-rock dwelling (as long as you have plenty of toilet paper.)

The one saving grace of being quarantined and practicing self-distancing during this global catastrophe is the internet which, for all its problems, is our main source of information and entertainment in these troubling times. People are glued to streaming services like Netflix—binge-watching TV shows and catching up on movies they missed—like never before.

Sadly because of the highly encouraged social-distancing policy currently in effect to “flatten the curve” of the pandemic, this means watching Netflix alone….OR DOES IT?

A new Chrome extension called “Netflix Party” has arrived to save us all from our virus-imposed isolation.

The extension, which is made for the Google Chrome browser, lets you watch Netflix with your friends by sharing a video link and then watching the same show simultaneously.

The app integrates a Discord-like chat box into the screen so you can gossip with your friends even though you’re miles apart.

There is something about watching a beloved show or new movie with a friend that makes it much more enjoyable. There are the inside jokes, debated opinions, and just overall sense of togetherness that a communal experience brings.

Think of it as being alone…TOGETHER!

A tweet about the extension quickly garnered a staggering 600,000+ Likes which suggests that people are hungry for some sort of social connection in this isolating time.

It’s not a perfect solution by any means but it beats become a total hermit with no human contact. Now get your lonely ass over to Netflix and watch Castlevania. We’re not being paid to say that either, it’s just good as hell.
