After NASCAR announced this week that they would no longer allow any Confederate flags at their events, people are roasting a driver who announced he would be quitting all NASCAR events in retaliation.
For most people, the most shocking thing about learning NASCAR was banning the symbol of the failed pro-slavery insurrection against the United States of America was that the Confederate flag wasn’t already banned from NASCAR events.
— NASCAR (@NASCAR) June 10, 2020
But for someone named Ray Ciccarelli, the announcement was apparently shocking in its…censorship? He’s definitely angry about not being able to fly “what ever flag,” but he’s also angry about people “kneeling during Anthem,” so maybe this is less of a defending freedom of speech scenario and more of a defending racism scenario.
Here’s what he had to say:
#NASCAR Truck driver/owner Ray Ciccarelli says he won’t continue in NASCAR after this year. He cited his reasons in this Facebook post: pic.twitter.com/NKrgPZFvyJ

Luckily for Ciccarelli, he doesn’t seem to have much of a career to lose.
He’s trying to gaslight a losing career. Currently 33rd in the standings. He’s right, he couldn’t care less about the flag, he’s trying to save face for quitting racing.

But then who will be able to be able to set the record with <checks notes> TWELVE races? pic.twitter.com/22oYhUH0Z3

Ray Ciccarelli (0-31 for his entire racing career) announced he’s quitting NASCAR due to their decision to ban confederate flags because he’s a racist mother fucker.
NASCAR is desperately seeking another driver to regularly finish 28th. #blm #blacklivesmatter #ConfederateFlag pic.twitter.com/cg3fQkGCEY

Luckily for us, his poor record also made for really, really easy jokes.
Honestly gotta respect Ray Ciccarelli for making his entire racing career an ode to the Confederacy by staunchly refusing to win EVER pic.twitter.com/LUxDADmimp

Thoughts and prayers to the NASCAR community cuz now somebody else has to come in last all the time
— Aaron West (@oeste) June 11, 2020
NASCAR truck driver Ray Ciccarelli has never even won a race. Like the confederacy, he knows how to quit while he’s behind.
— Palmer Report (@PalmerReport) June 11, 2020
While it seems likely nobody ever had fun watching him race, the internet sure had fun dunking on him.
Ray Ciccarelli (0-31 in his career) has announced his retirement from NASCAR due to their decision to ban confederate flags. NASCAR is scrambling to find someone else to regularly finish 28th.
It’s no surprise. Ciccarelli has never been good at anything race-related.

It’s official he’s insulted more races than he’s won https://t.co/QDOaPSb6KU

Like Ray Ciccarelli, I too am announcing my retirement from NASCAR without ever winning a race. pic.twitter.com/72nBabtEnX

Imagine only being in Nascar for the Confederate flags.
— OUFENIX (D) (@oufenix) June 11, 2020
Ain’t nothing like an Italian American from suburban Baltimore LARPing as a Confederate heritage defender.
— Aaron Astor (@AstorAaron) June 10, 2020
Glad to see racist Ray Ciccarelli quit #NASCAR and try to blame it on the Confederate flag and not the fact he ain’t won anything. pic.twitter.com/UWc6YuveWY

NARRATOR: Flying the Confederate flag makes you a racist.
— Billy Corben (@BillyCorben) June 11, 2020
Most people agree Ciccarelli needs to brush up on his education if he’s going to take such a strong stance.
Perhaps if he had attended school and learned BOTH spelling and history he would understand.

“I won’t disrespect our beloved sovereign nation by silently kneeling during the anthem, and I will fight tooth and nail to fly the flag of treason and brutality that nearly destroyed it.”

I’m willing to bet that horse & buggy drivers were pissed when cars were invented, too. Clinging to “the old ways” doesn’t make you a traditionalist, it makes you afraid of progress. It’s okay to be afraid of the unknown; it’s not okay to refuse to try new things because of fear.

Also…why was it signed Sarah Ciccarelli??
I’m assuming he’s illiterate so he had to have his wife write this?
— AnnaMaria Stephens (@annamaria1word) June 11, 2020
Ray Ciccarelli is going to lose it on Sarah Ciccarelli when he wakes up. https://t.co/OILCkF8Z2C
