Ikea Clapped Back At A Facebook Busybody With A Flag Issue

Facebook is where people without a lot of information and a lot of free time go to start pointless arguments. This can be very frustrating when they’re your relatives, but when it’s strangers on the Internet getting dunked on by corporate social media accounts, it can be fun. This post comes from Redditor u/hootersbutwithcats, who shared a screenshot on r/therewasanattempt of a brief convo between some know-it-al in Florida who turned out to know nothing.

The altercation started with a Sponsored post from the massive Swedish furniture store about how there’s a new location coming to Florida, including a photo of the front of an Ikea that shows both the American and Swedish flag.

“Hej, Jacksonville! We can’t wait to ÖPPEN our doors to you and your family,” it cheerfully announces.

This fairly neutral statement was met with an accusation from an anonymous commenter.

“The American flag is supposed to be flown higher than any other countries flag here,” the masked complainer wrote.  Wrong!

Ikea responded, writing, “Our flags are flown according to the United States code,” referring to Title 4, United States Code, Chapter 1, Section 7 which says, “When flags of two or more nations are displayed, they are to be flown from separate staffs of the same height.”

The more you know! Unfortunately, we do not have the Floridian’s response in this screenshot. I’m sure they said something like, “I am humbled. Please accept my apologies.”

Commenters on Reddit really enjoyed the Ikea burn, because it is the definition of pride goeth before a fall to argue with this furniture company:

One person insinuated they actually already know all the flag codes and have found that other people rarely do, and they even more rarely appreciate hearing what they’re doing wrong:

And another was more irritated by the improper grammatical use of Swedish than the flag nonsense:

“Öppen” means something is already open,” sense_make wrote. “Öppna” used in this context means something will open.” I’d be very hesitant to bring up that last complaint with Ikea. I’m sure they have an absolutely devastating comeback.
