The coronavirus, known as COVID-19, is spreading rapidly all over the world. It is worst in Italy. There has been a lot said about who the virus dangerously affects: mostly the elderly and immunocompromised. That’s a lot of people. But what’s scary about it is the number of folks it’s sending into the intensive care unit desperate to breathe. The need is overwhelming hospitals in Italy and citizens there are not sure when it will stop. Quarantine was instituted to try and help stop the spread of the illness and give some relief to the medical system.
Basically, most people are going to get it, especially in areas with high-density populations. The hope is that they’ll get it in waves so it can be dealt with more effectively. The bad news is that the government isn’t really helping with that.
Private organizations have been canceling events and companies are asking those who can to work from home. The Trump administration is suppressing testing and putting the worst man for the job on it, Vice President Mike Pence.
So, folks, it’s time to take heed and take things into your own washed hands. If you don’t believe me, try believing this woman named Cristina Higgins, who posted to Facebook claiming she lives in Bergamo, Italy. She wanted to warn everyone to start self-quarantining NOW:
First, she warned people it’s a mistake to suggest only older people are hurt by this virus or to call it a flu. She then said that the country’s Prime Minister announced the lockdown by saying, “There is no more time.” The quarantine is a “hail mary.”
“Why? Today the ICUs in Lombardy are at capacity— more than capacity. They have begun to put ICU units in the hallways. If the numbers do not go down, the growth rate of contagion tells us that there will be thousands of people who in a matter of a week? two weeks? who will need care.”
She then reminded everyone that a doctor on Monday told everyone that hospitals have been forced already to decide who lives and dies in the emergency room, as though they’re working in conditions of war.
“You have a chance to make a difference and stop the spread in your country,” she continued. “Push for the entire office to work at home today, cancel birthday parties, and other gatherings, stay home as much as you can. If you have a fever, any fever, stay home. Push for school closures, now. Anything you can do to stop the spread, because it is spreading in your communities—there is a two week incubation periods—and if you do these things no you can buy your medical system time.”
Higgins also reminded everyone that not long ago, Italy thought doing the same thing would be impossible. Now they have to in order to survive. Will you wait for the government to tell you what to do?
In the meantime, please make sure you’re doing one of the few things you can do to protect yourself from the coronavirus: WASH YOUR HANDS.
If you need Donald Trump to tell you to wash your hands, you already have it.

Time to take care of yourselves and the rest of your family. And wash your hands.
