The “you’ve changed bro” meme is for anyone who has ever had a friend accuse them of changing or anyone who has lived through 2020, a year that is changing us all. It’s a play on a common trope of films and TV and I guess real life, too—someone who knew you from the past thinks you’re gonna stay exactly the same way you’ve always been, forever. They get mad when that doesn’t happen and try to throw it in your face.
IRL it can be hard to come up with a reason why this change occurred that is easy to articulate. On Twitter, there are hundreds and hundreds of answers. Some of the people using the “you’ve changed” meme format are making jokes, but some of them are making me think. At times, change is necessary. Even more often it’s unavoidable. Bro, life comes at you fast. You change or it changes you!
