Emilia Clarke Just Responded To The ‘GoT’ Coffee Cup Fail

It’s been four days since the entire Game of Thrones fandom was rocked by Cup Gate, when eagle-eyed viewers spotted a Starbucks cup sitting in front of Daenerys Targaryen, plain as day. We’ve enjoyed ourselves with countless memes and jokes at the show’s expense, but someone who has remained pretty silent until now is Emilia Clarke, the Mother of Dragons herself.

Clarke recently posted a behind-the-scenes photo of herself, Jason Mamoa (Khal Drogo) and Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) on her personal Instagram. What’s that in her hand? A coffee cup.

Her caption reads:

“Did I just stumble upon the truth here?! The cup bearer does not drinketh the Starbucks tea… oh and this ain’t a spoiler just a lost wanderer coming home for a mid filming cuppa…. @prideofgypsies you so fire you make my hair turn blue.”

As a tongue-in cheek addition, she hash tagged the post with “#forfuturereferenceileavethebagin” and “#forthecaffeine”.

Those in the comments were quick to capitalize on the joke.

One joked that Khal Drogo himself went to go fetch the cup for the “moon of his life”: “Khal Drogo went to get some.”

Another echoed the thoughts of all of us: “Ordering my Starbucks will never be the same, thank you my Queen.”

Others were more preoccupied with the cellphone in Peter Dinklage’s hand, writing: “Seems the raven’s have been up graded to modern phones as well.”

And some even thought Mamoa’s presence on the set, despite being downplayed by Clarke as just a friendly visit, was a potential spoiler for the final season, even though Khal Drogo was killed off in season 1.

Although the Starbucks cup had quickly risen to its own bizarre stardom, the show announced that it had been edited out on all HBO platforms 48 hours later.

Maybe Daenerys’ caffeine intake is what caused her to make so many bone-headed decisions this season. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Or, you can toss all that waiting aside and check out the supposed leaked Game of Thrones finale plot details if you’re that impatient.
