At some point in school in the U.S., most kids are taught about the Constitution, but whether or not they actually remember it probably depends on whether or not they hear it referred to again and again in case after case. How many people remember the Third Amendment? Maybe constitutional scholars and that’s it. But after these 3rd amendment memes, it’s going to be all of us.
Senator Mike Lee certainly doesn’t remember it, because if he did, he probably wouldn’t have tweeted this, opening the floodgates to 3rd Amendment memes:
Just heard that Mayor Bowser is kicking the Utah National Guard out of all DC hotels tomorrow. More than 1200 troops from 10 states are being evicted. This is unacceptable. 1/2
— Mike Lee (@SenMikeLee) June 5, 2020
Lee is referring to the Washington D.C. Mayor’s refusal to foot the bill for the National Guard’s stay at hotels, so they’d have somewhere comfortable to sleep at night after gassing citizens during the day. After Lee’s tweet, people started reminding the Senator of the Third Amendment which states that the government can’t house soldiers in your home in wartime or peacetime.
This had been a big issue before the American Revolution because the British army was always making people put up soldiers, which was bad for morale and their wallets.
You Republican Senators should really try reading the Constitution once, instead of just using it for toilet paper. The Third Amendment prohibits the government from quartering troops over objections, you fascist cheese biscuit.

It doesn’t necessarily apply in this case, because D.C. hotels are not Bowser’s literal house. She just doesn’t want to pay the bill for them, or have them in the streets like an occupying army. But we still gotta give the Third Amendment its due, because this might be the last time we hear about it for another two hundred years.
People were soon making the 3rd Amendment memes we need to educate the masses on “quartering” soldiers.
