What were you doing in 2009? Probably not embarking on a Twitter romance story for the ages, tweeting about the person you were going to marry, right? Well, one guy, Jared Matthews, did just that. Ah, 2009 — the innocent days of yore, when Twitter was fun and new and not a landmine for trolls and dumb memes…
In 2009, Jared was in Las Vegas, generally being a twenty-something, and having a good time. And by good time, we mean he met a really hot girl, Analyn, and made some seriously iffy jokes about her racial background.
Met a really hot girl who was half japanese half philipino. Think i ruined it by constantly callin her a jalepeno.

Luckily, though, the jokes worked…because In 2019, Jared logged back onto Twitter after quitting the platform for an entire damn decade to announce literally the craziest thing ever: He had married Analyn. The girl he called jalapeno.

He was off the Internet for a decade because of work stuff. (Which is weird considering most jobs think an Internet presence is a good thing).
I am closing twitter.com as my boss is not happy.

Obviously, this sort of thing doesn’t happen all that frequently, and if it does, it certainly isn’t often documented on Twitter. But Jared — the dumb-joking dude at the Las Vegas bar—got the girl!
In an interview with BuzzFeed (which happened because his tweets blew up) he said, “I’m not going to lie to you, I was getting a little drunk, and when she told me she was half Japanese, half Filipino, I just made the joke.” He also said that Analyn (his wife!!!) found it hilarious.
So how’d it all work out?
He exchanged numbers with her that night, and then a month later asked her to be his girlfriend. She said yes, and they dated for years, and got engaged after three years. When he logged back on nearly a decade later, he told the world that they’d gotten married when he saw his old tweet. WILD.
He told BuzzFeed, “I knew exchanging numbers that night had been the best decision of my life.”
Of course, Jared is now chatting with the world about his amazing love story, taking DMs and generally being lovely.
My direct messages are now open, if you would like to ask any questions regarding relationships or whatever, feel free. I will try to answer as many as possible.

But he still wants to keep a bit of his romance private.
For everyone asking, My wife and I have decided not to add any pictures for the time being. Once we’re both comfortable, we might upload our wedding pictures. Sorry.

Needless to say, people adore their digital-age love story:
Yes 10 years down the line and they’re married I’m proud
